Important Update: New Junior Team Structuring for Next Season

9 Jun by Alex Hamilton

At Ashwood, we’re proud to be a community-based netball club where inclusion, teamwork, and fun are at the heart of everything we do. One of the things we value most is giving our players the opportunity to connect with new teammates from different schools, while also ensuring they’re placed in teams with others of a similar ability so everyone can develop and enjoy the game.

To align with WDNA’s approach to team grading, our Junior teams will now be structured based on age and skill level, and not on individual requests. To keep things fair and transparent for everyone, team placements will be decided by the club’s grading and selection process only.

This means:
-Fairer and more balanced teams
-Training tailored to players’ abilities so everyone gets the right support
-Equal focus on developing every player, no matter their skill level or team
-More fun and competitive games for all players

We understand sometimes there are exceptional circumstances, if that’s the case, please reach out to the Club President via email.

It’s important to note that the selection committee is made up of both independent selectors and senior coaches who have been with the club a long time, so we do have a good awareness of who is friends with who and on court combinations that have been working well.

We also want to reassure everyone that we’re not focused on creating elite teams (like representative netball), we’re equally committed to all levels. Our goal is for every player to enjoy their netball, feel supported, and stay in the game for as long as possible.

Thank you for supporting Ashwood Netball Club’s growth and development of our players.
